We received a call from the hotel in Toledo that only a few rooms have been booked. They will only hold the rooms until Sept. 23. Please see the blog post below about the hotel and book your room as soon as possible. If you are unable to attend, please let me know.
This is the practice schedule for the rest of September and October. All practices will be at McGlinnen. I have scheduled two optional batting practice days on Wednesdays. Please do not feel obligated, but we will be at the field if anyone would like the extra batting practice. We are going to be focusing primarily on defense and baserunning for the rest of our outdoor practices, and switching the focus to batting and pitching when we go inside for the winter.
It appears as though the problems with the link have been fixed, so you can click on the link below to book rooms for Toledo. Here is the information again for those of you who may still have questions. My uncle runs the Lucas County Fairgrounds, which includes a very large fieldhouse. He has agreed to let us use the fieldhouse at no charge on Saturday, Oct. 24. We are going to be holding a day-long camp, with a session in the morning and a second one in the afternoon/evening. The trip is designed to be a team-building opportunity for not only the players, but also parents who may not know each other. My hope is that everyone will be able to stay at least Saturday night, but some players are planning on staying Friday night as well. We will be starting early Saturday morning (probably at 9 am). We have reserved a block of rooms at a Holiday Inn located near the fairgrounds. The hotel has a water park, which requires an extra charge. The team will be taking care of the charge for the players, but siblings will be on their own. The hotel information is as follows:
Holiday Inn Toledo-Maumee
1705 Tollgate Drive
Maumee, Ohio, 43537
If you decide to book by phone, please tell them you are with the Macomb Gators Baseball Club. The rate is $99 per night for rooms with two double beds.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I would also ask that you send me a text or let me know on this blog post that you have booked your room.
I'm not sure how many of you I informed about our planned trip to Toledo, but we do have a date set for October. 24. For those of you who are not aware of what I am referring to, I'll give you a quick run-down. My uncle runs the Lucas County Fairgrounds in Maumee, just outside Toledo. He has offered to let us use the fieldhouse down there for the day for free. The coaching staff thought it would be a good team-building opportunity for parents and coaches to go there and spend the weekend. Our plan is to stay Friday night in a local hotel (I will be reserving a block of rooms), and spend the entire day Saturday training in the fieldhouse. We will probably hold a morning/early afternoon session, break for a couple hours, and then return for an evening session. We would then stay Saturday night at the hotel again and return home on Sunday. Parents do not have to stay for the training all day Saturday. The hotel we are looking to reserve is adjacent to an outdoor mall that may be of interest to some of you. While the baseball part is important, the goal of the weekend is for all of us to get to know each other a little bit and let the kids have some non-baseball fun together. Again, please feel free to comment on this post if you would like, or contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any concerns.
One of the things that I really want to make a theme with this team is that we keep our out-of-pocket costs as low as possible. Having said that, we still need some funds to get the season going. I would like to ask each player for a $300 payment so that we have funds to pay for our fall and winter training and equipment and uniform orders. Being that this is a first-year team, there are some costs that won't have to be repeated in future years. As we fund-raise during the lead-up to the actual season, my hope is that we not only take care of the rest of the funds, but also raise enough to give every player some or all of that $300 back. I am going to create a way for you to pay on-line if you want, or you can pay by check. I have not yet created the team bank account, but when I do, I will let everyone know. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up as to how the funding is going to work. Please feel free to comment here if you have any questions. However, please be aware that this is a public forum. If you would like to contact me discreetly, please e-mail me at email@example.com.
